I am having my stove refurbished, one of the services that is performed is that they install electronic igniters for the oven and the broiler, t=with this procedure thay must disconnect the original thermostat and put in a electronic one. Will this reduce the value of the stove? Help I don't know what to do local regs. are killing me.

I am not the authority on this site about this, but I do know that the Chambers thermostat is supposed to be a work of art - even to this day. Many on this site have or are going to install a "red button" safety valve system which should satisfy any authorities (how is that you are subjected to regs? - I presume that if I am not seeking a "Certificate of Occupancy" = selling or renting out that I would not come under scrutiny.)

You do not have to give up your thermostat to be "safe" and pass the regs. There are folks on this site who have put together and installed their own safety valve systems - not for the weak at heart, but even if you had someone do it for you... (professional gas tech).

One other thing (I had checked out this option too) is that your thermostat knob will no longer turn on your oven if you do what you suggest - it becomes "just a knob". I think there is another knob installed somewhere. That is what really got to me I think. Don't let them tell you this is the only option - it is not.

If the place that's restoring your stove demands this, take it away from them.

This is the equivalent of installing neon ground lighting effects and an in-dash DVD player on a Model A Ford.

It's possible to make the oven safe without removing the original Thermostat. You won't find an electronic one that works as well as the original.
